Valentine's Day Bunch Club Bouquet
Share
Welcome to this month's arrangement! I'm really excited about this one. We've got some absolute stunners, including a seriously special lilac hybrid that you don't see every day.
What's in Your Bouquet
Naomi Rose
Premium garden rose with those gorgeous, fully-packed petals. Naomi roses are known for their incredible form and long-lasting blooms. These beauties will keep opening over the next few days.
Carnation & Spray Carnation
Both standard and spray varieties this week, giving us different sizes and textures. Modern carnations are having a major moment, and for good reason. They're fluffy, romantic, and seriously outlast everything else in the vase. They'll continue to open and hopefully last you around 3 weeks!
Maiden's Blush Lilac (Syringa x hyacinthiflora)
Here's the star. This is a lilac-hyacinth hybrid with the most incredible fragrance. It features pale pink single flowers that bloom from reddish-purple buds, and it's considered one of the best pink/white lilacs on the market. The scent is absolutely stunning. This variety blooms earlier than common lilacs and combines the best traits of both parent plants.
Panicum Fountain
Your ornamental grass bringing movement and that wild, natural energy. Keeps the whole arrangement from feeling too formal.
Ruscus
The glossy greenery providing structure and balance. Long-lasting and essential for framing all those soft petals.
My Go-To Flower Food Formula
This is what I use in my studio. It's simple, works brilliantly, and you probably have everything already:
The Recipe:
- 1 litre of warm water
- 2 tablespoons white sugar
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar or lemon juice
- ½ teaspoon bleach
How to Make It: Mix everything together in warm water until the sugar dissolves. Let it cool to room temperature before adding to your vase.
How It Works:
- Sugar feeds the flowers
- Vinegar/lemon juice helps water move up the stems
- Bleach kills bacteria that clogs stems
Make a fresh batch each time you change the water to extend vase life.
Care Tips for Your Bouquet
Add Clean Water to a Clean Vase
Fresh, room-temperature water from the start. Add your flower food (recipe above or your flower food packet).
Special Note on the Lilac
Lilacs are thirsty! They drink more water than most cut flowers. Check your water level daily and top up as needed. The flowers are excellent for cutting, but they do need consistent hydration.
Find the Right Spot
Keep away from direct sunlight, heating vents, and fruit bowls. The lilac's fragrance will fill whatever room you put it in, so choose wisely!
Change Water Every 2 Days
This is especially important with lilac stems. Make a fresh batch of flower food each time. Trim each stem at an angle to ensure the flower are able to drink.
Enjoy the Evolution
The roses will continue opening, and the lilac blooms might start to fade after 4-5 days. Remove spent lilac florets to keep the arrangement looking fresh, and the other flowers will keep going strong.
Pro Tip
If the lilac starts to droop, recut the stem at a sharp angle and place it in hot water (40-45°C) for 30 seconds before returning to the vase. Lilac stems can get woody, so a fresh cut helps tremendously.
