This Week's Bunch Club: The Modern Romantic
Share
Liverpool's getting properly autumnal this week, isn't it? When you're pulling on that extra jumper and the sky's looking a bit grey, fresh flowers make all the difference. This week's bouquet is called "The Modern Romantic" and it's designed to brighten up whatever room you put it in.

Light Pink Carnations
What they mean: Love and fascination (pink ones specifically represent a mother's love)
How long they last: 2-3 weeks - proper workhorses
Care tips: Change water every couple of days, keep away from fruit bowls
Fun fact: They're actually one of the longest-lasting cut flowers you can buy

Plum & Burgundy Cymbidium Orchids
What they mean: Luxury and strength
How long they last: 3-6 weeks if you look after them
Care tips: Like it humid - give them a light spray, keep at room temperature
Fun fact: Originally from the Himalayas, and some smell amazing

White Anthurium
What they mean: Purity and new beginnings
How long they last: Up to 4 weeks
Care tips: Hate cold drafts, use filtered water if you can
Fun fact: Those heart-shaped "flowers" are actually modified leaves

White Calla Lilies
What they mean: Purity and rebirth
How long they last: 1-2 weeks
Care tips: Love cool spots and clean water
Fun fact: Despite the name, they're not actually lilies at all

Purple Astrantia
What they mean: Strength and courage
How long they last: 7-10 days
Care tips: Keep cool, they don't like heat
Fun fact: Each "flower" is actually loads of tiny flowers grouped together

Deep Purple Alstroemeria
What they mean: Admiration and fascination, plus enduring friendship
How long they last: Up to 2 weeks - brilliant value
Care tips: Very thirsty flowers, check water daily, keep away from fruit
Fun fact: Also called Peruvian Lily or Lily of the Incas, and each of the six petals represents understanding, humour, patience, empathy, commitment and respect

Soft Ruscus
What it does: Fills in gaps and adds movement
How long it lasts: Ages gracefully, stays green for weeks
Care tips: Pretty much bulletproof
Fun fact: Mediterranean plant that's been used in arrangements for centuries

Silver Dollar Eucalyptus
What it means: Protection and healing
How long it lasts: Months - you can dry it afterwards
Care tips: Zero maintenance required
Fun fact: The smell is basically aromatherapy for your living room
Quick Care Summary
- Change water every 2-3 days
- Cut stems at an angle under running water
- Remove any leaves sitting in water
- Keep away from radiators and sunny windows
- Give the orchids and anthurium an occasional light mist
The best bit about this mix? Even when some flowers finish, others will keep going for weeks. The eucalyptus alone will keep your room smelling lovely long after everything else is done.
Enjoy!
